A misery may gain a fortune

"A misery may gain a fortune". This is not a quotation from a holy book or a word of wisdom nor it is a consolation. It is a common experience realized by the right tools at the right time and place.
It is "a misery" for a man to be eaten by a group of lions. For the one who recorded the mishap with the right tool "a camera" at the right time, it was a "fortunate" incident to be sold to the medium willing to broadcast.
Natural and manmade disasters, criminal acts, accidents, parliament members' quarrels, neighbors' fights, trains and heavy trucks hitting unlucky cars, humans, animals or motorcycles are "miseries" to the maimed but to whoever sold the shot it was "fortunate" because of the income gained.
It doesn't matter what tag they have: breaking news, documentary, entertainment, or shocking reality. What really matters to TV stations is the result they make: more viewers, more advertisements, more subscribers and consequently more money "fortune".
Fortune extends to include viewers enjoying entertainment, time-killers, education to avoid what led to such miseries, a professional work of art crime to be copied, an acquaintance for authorities to take the right measures and prevent them from happening or to be ready for them when they happen. So it is not always bad after all. Isn't it?
On the other hand, I wonder What attract people to violence, disasters and criminal acts that societies are suffering from all over the world? What part of us do they satisfy? what if these clips are utilized by the wrong hand? How do they contribute to our knowledge. What effects do these programs do on our society? Is it the lack of creativity and the inability of our media to entertain? If it is a dangerous commodity invested by a popular TV station, how can we protect our society from it?
